The Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM) is excited to bring you MAAM Encores—a virtual learning series. Each session offers practical insights, innovative strategies, and inspiring stories from across the museum field.
Founded in 1874, the Dubuque Museum of Art (DuMA) has evolved into a Smithsonian affiliate known for American Regionalism and contemporary art. Now, it is developing a new indoor-outdoor campus to better serve its community and strengthen Dubuque’s cultural and economic future.
Shaped by extensive community input, the project prioritizes spaces for children, local representation, and shared community use—challenging traditional museum models. With construction underway and a temporary space testing new ideas, this session explores how community voices and institutional goals are being translated into a flexible, future-focused museum design.
Join colleagues from across the region (and beyond!) for interactive presentations, Q&A sessions, and opportunities to connect with peers—without leaving your desk. Whether you missed the original conference session at the 2026 Building Museums Symposium or want to dive deeper into the topic, Encores brings expert knowledge straight to you. Free for MAAM Members; Non-members: $25.
